With the need in our community tripling in the last few years, we share a vision to serve our neighbors as the leading resource for pet well-being, to champion positive outcomes through holistic care and comprehensive services, and to build a better future for people and pets.
With the generosity of Stu and Rebecca Sjouwerman fueling our vision, our $12 million, 16,000 sq ft, state-of-the art, Hurricane Category 5-Rated epicenter for animal welfare and community engagement is underway. To date, others have joined the Sjouwermans with leadership gifts, bringing our total raised to nearly $8 million. We have $4 million remaining to reach our goal.

“I have always been an animal lover and have donated regularly to many organizations that protect animals and nature. When I visited the Humane Society of Pinellas, it struck me how kind and caring the team was—how well they treated the animals, volunteers, and future families. I learned that HSP had been operating tirelessly for over 70 years. They had helped thousands of animals, but still worked out of trailers and small dilapidated buildings, some of which had no A/C. They had been dreaming for years of getting a better building, but never had the money. I knew that I had found the right organization to give a substantial gift to create a state of the art, hurricane-safe, air-conditioned building for both animals and staff. It was a touching moment in which we all wept! The building is well underway now. I couldn’t be more proud of it.”
They accomplished so much with so little, now the sky is the limit!
“It’s amazing that they've been able to accomplish for animal welfare with as little resources as they had—the Sjouwerman Adoption Center will propel them forward to better meet the needs of our community.”
“It’s going to be awesome!”

“When you put energy into something that’s what grows; the outreach will grow even more and they will be able to reach more people and animals! They are invested, growing, and are going to make our furry friends (and reptiles) healthy and loved. Their commitment since the start is profound.”

“The Sjouwerman Adoption Center gives me confidence and hope that neighbors like me will get the support we need, and our neighbors will know where to reach out to seek this help.”
The veterinary medical team and volunteers
at HSP are phenomenal.
“Their specialty
surgeries and care have made our furry family member a possibility for us. We know that the
Sjouwerman Adoption Center will be an extension of rehabilitative care for many more families like ours.”
